Overview

Established in 2010, The Xeriscape Network is a welcoming and diverse gaming community dedicated to connecting players from all walks of life. Our mission is to promote personal growth through mutual support while fostering a positive and respectful environment for discussions and gameplay.

To maintain this atmosphere, we have set forth a clear set of guidelines for all current and prospective members. We kindly request that you take a moment to review and fully understand these guidelines. Should you have any questions or concerns about any rules, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a staff member for clarification. Our staff members are empowered to interpret these guidelines and make decisions in the community’s best interest.

Our guidelines are grounded in common sense principles, which can be summarized as: ‘Don’t be an asshole; Don’t be an idiot.’ Our goal is to create an inclusive community where every member can interact and play without negativity. Your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines is essential for us to realize this objective.

It is the responsibility of our members to be familiar with our community guidelines. If you are unwilling to abide by them, we kindly request that you refrain from joining our community. For current members who may disagree with our guidelines, we suggest discontinuing your participation in our community, as continued involvement implies acceptance of our guidelines and any future updates.

Community Guidelines

To ensure uniformity throughout The Xeriscape Network, these comprehensive guidelines are applicable across all platforms, services managed by Xeriscape, and the broader community. They take precedence over any conflicting service-specific directives, unless expressly stated otherwise.

1. Do not abuse, belittle, or insult anyone; Treat those as you would expect them to treat you. If you think something may be disrespectful or inappropriate, simply don’t say it.

A. Do not try to enforce rules or threaten punishment to other members, report incidents to staff instead.

B. Avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics and religion in the community.

I. Discussions of politics and religion are allowed only if they are related to current events and if they do not devolve into arguments or veer off-topic. Our focus is on gaming, not political or religious debate.

C. Freedom of expression is a core value at Xeriscape, and we encourage a broad range of viewpoints. However, we maintain a neutral position by steering clear of political or religious discussions. Our community does not serve as a platform for the promotion of specific political or religious beliefs.

D. We do not tolerate discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or gender.

E. We have a zero-tolerance policy for witch hunting, harassment, or promoting violence. Engaging in such activities will result in immediate removal from the community.

F. Do not promote self-harm, suicide, or threats against others.

G. Do not falsely impersonate others; You have the freedom to create parodies and satirical content about public figures, but if you come across anything suspicious, please notify our staff for evaluation.

H. Members of Xeriscape should act responsibly and not damage the community’s reputation.

2. Keep profanity to a minimum in community chats and voice channels. Occasional usage is fine, but refrain from excessive profanity.

3. Refrain from posting or engaging with content that is abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, threatening, sexually explicit, drug-related, or violates your country’s or the United States’ laws, where Xeriscape is hosted.

4. We have a zero-tolerance policy for spam at Xeriscape. This encompasses filling chats with irrelevant messages or sounds and causing disruptions in voice chats with loud or annoying noises.

A. Ensure you stay on topic by reading the channel topics and pinned messages in the appropriate chats.

B. Using your microphone in a disruptive or excessive manner, such as playing music or employing a soundboard, is not permitted in Xeriscape’s Discord server voice channels and other voice chat systems. It’s important to honor requests to cease this behavior.

I. To avoid transmitting background noise, it’s advisable to use push-to-talk or lower microphone sensitivity in voice chats.

II. The use of voice changers/modifiers and soundboards/sound effects is not allowed.

C. Some examples that would be deemed spam are, but not limited to:

I. Soliciting direct messages to community members who are not expecting it.

II. Posting the same content/message(s) within a short time period.

III. Exceedingly large images, large ASCII art, and unicode/emoji spam.

IV. Unrelated/off-topic/link-farmed content.

V. Link shorteners, domain redirects, or disguising the source URL.

VI. Affiliate links (e.g. Amazon) and using pay-per-click websites (e.g. adf.ly).

VII. Harmful third-party content, such as malware, phishing, deceptive pop-ups, etc.

D. Promoting other services or communities without permission is prohibited. Joining Xeriscape solely for promotional purposes without staff approval will lead to appropriate actions being taken.

I. You may share information about other communities or services if it is relevant to the current discussion.

5. Please exercise discretion when uploading and sharing files on Xeriscape, ensuring they are placed in their respective destinations.

A. Please limit file sharing to non-executable types, such as text, images, and gifs. For safety and security, refrain from sending executable files or programs. Instead, include a direct link to the official software download page.

B. Respect the rights of creators and content owners when sharing their work. Avoid uploading content hidden behind paywalls or memberships, such as on Patreon. Community-shared content should be publicly available and credited to the original creator.

D. Sharing or posting explicit or inappropriate content, including NSFW/pornographic material, is strictly prohibited. Content deemed offensive or unsuitable for a professional setting will not be tolerated. Furthermore, content related to disturbing subjects like gore, death, rape, incest, abuse, or similar topics is strictly forbidden and will not be permitted on our platform.

I. Refrain from posting content that could be interpreted as promoting or endorsing pedophilia, child exploitation, or the sexualization of minors. If you’re uncertain about content in this regard, it’s wise to exercise caution and abstain from posting to avoid potential legal ramifications.

II. The posting of content that depicts or sexualizes characters appearing child-like, regardless of their age in centuries or millennia, is strictly prohibited and will not be allowed.

6. Xeriscape is an English-speaking community, and all communication visible to other members must adhere to this language requirement.

A. Avoid Leet Speak or AIT Case (e.g., “7YP1N’ L1NK 7h1z” or “tYpInG lIkE ThIs”) in community communication, as it may hinder readability and be treated as spam. Limited use for emphasis or humor is allowed.

7. Engaging in discussions or sharing content related to illegal activities, including piracy, unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material, or account trading, is not permitted in the community.

Discord Guidelines

These guidelines pertain to all interactions within The Xeriscape Network’s community Discord server. We utilize Discord as our primary communication platform because it provides a centralized space for community members to engage in real-time discussions, rather than dispersing chats across various games with limited participation. Access to the Discord server is always available via the invite redirect.

1. Make sure to keep the content in each channel and category of the server relevant and appropriate; Any irrelevant or inappropriate content will be removed. For information on the intended use of each channel, refer to the pinned message and channel topic in the Discord server.

2. Maintain a presentable displayname, avoiding the use of Zalgo or other Unicode characters that obscure your name. In cases of non-compliance, a staff member may assign a suitable nickname. Furthermore, usernames or displaynames containing prohibited slurs or domains will be automatically replaced. Self-promotion in usernames or displaynames, such as ‘TTV/<CHANNEL NAME>,’ is also not allowed.

3. The voice channels in the Private Rooms category are intended for groups or activities and should not be entered without an invitation from the group leader. Joining these channels without permission is considered impolite and disruptive.

4. Do not use any unauthorized methods, such as exploits or network manipulation, that violate Discord’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines.

Destiny Guidelines

These rules form the guiding principles for The Xeriscape Network’s Destiny 2 clan. Our clan’s ethos is not ‘hardcore’ but rather centered on assisting newcomers and fostering friendship. We emphasize casual gameplay while occasionally diving into team-based events like Nightfalls and Raids.

In addition to these Destiny 2 clan guidelines, members must adhere to specific requirements during their active membership, which are detailed on our community support website.

1. To secure victory in end-game and high-level activities, effective teamwork and communication within the fireteam are crucial.

A. Members not following instructions or hindering the team’s progress may be removed by fireteam leaders. Unless otherwise mentioned, it’s important to obey specific leader instructions, like ‘Do not touch the orb.’

I. Fireteam leaders are expected to provide valid reasons when removing a member; personal preferences do not qualify. If the fireteam is full and someone wishes to join, they’ll have to wait until the ongoing activity concludes.

II. Employing fellow fireteam members to complete an activity and subsequently denying them rewards or removing them at the last moment is strictly prohibited. This behavior, particularly within raids, is frowned upon by Bungie and may lead to a ban from Destiny.

III. Members inactive for more than half the activity’s duration can be removed by fireteam leaders. Active participation and contribution to the team’s goals are expected from all members.

2. Informing the fireteam leader before leaving an activity is crucial. Sudden exits without explanation disrupt your teammates’ plans and are discourteous to their time dedication. If an unexpected situation arises, notify the leader promptly.

3. All members of a fireteam agree to uphold the hallmarks of good sportsmanship contained within the “Guardian’s Oath” as drafted by Bungie for their in-game Guided Games raiding system.

A. Helpful; Work together as a team to achieve a common goal.

B. Attentive; Respect everyone’s commitment to undertaking the current task.

C. Observant; Adjusting your playstyle and gear accordingly.

D. Willing to Learn; Understand that different groups may have different strategies.

E. Friendly; Realizing that being in a bad situation doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun.

4. Lack of collaboration and cooperation within your in-game team may result in a temporary suspension from the Destiny 2 clan for existing members. Repeated offenses may lead to a permanent ban from the clan.

5. To respect the privacy of fellow players, please avoid joining their in-game groups or voice chats without an invitation. Instead, reach out via the Discord server to ask if they are open to additional players. Joining without an invitation may disrupt their solo play or take a spot designated for another player.

6. When inviting others to join your game, please be specific about the activity and your requirements. For example, instead of a generic request like “I need help with a Nightfall,” say, “I need a Warlock with Well of Radiance for a Master Inverted Spire Nightfall.” This increases your chances of finding suitable assistance.

7. Violation of Bungie’s rules, including cheating or network manipulation, is not tolerated in our community. Offenders may face permanent bans from the clan, community expulsion, and reporting to Bungie.

Minecraft Guidelines

For the governance of Telzenith, Xeriscape’s Minecraft server, these guidelines have been put into effect; It is essential to observe these guidelines while actively engaging on the server.

1. Respect both the server and fellow players by refraining from negatively affecting others’ gameplay experiences.

A. Intentionally causing server lag through plugins or game mechanics is prohibited. Any known sources of lag will be removed.

B. Any deliberate efforts to damage the server will be detected and met with fitting consequences.

C. Ensure that redstone machines, clocks/timers, circuits, etc., have an off switch or can automatically deactivate when not needed.

D. Do not make any attempts to bypass the idle timeout; This uses valuable server resources that could be utilized somewhere else.

2. Client hacks or mods that grant an unfair advantage over other players are forbidden.

3. Griefing within player protection claims and server regions is not permitted.

A. Players inactive on the Minecraft server for over 60 days will have their claimed regions marked as expired. Once expired, these regions won’t revert to their natural state; The structures within them will be vulnerable to griefing or looting however.

4. Telzenith’s game environment operates within Minecraft’s PvEvP framework, where Player vs. Player (PvP) mechanics can be individually toggled on or off. Enabling PvP is a voluntary decision, and you assume the risk of potential attacks from other players who also have PvP enabled.

A. In the event of your character’s death on the server, your items become accessible to all, without any obligation for others to return them.

5. Trading real-world items or currency is strictly forbidden. Engaging in transactions to buy or sell in-game items, including accounts, violates Minecraft’s EULA and is prohibited.

A. An exception to this rule is when players trade or compensate each other for services or tasks (such as building structures) to be completed on the server. However, please be aware that these transactions are not enforceable by Xeriscape and are undertaken at your own risk.

6. Please refrain from devising traps that use portals or hidden ports within safe/protected areas to capture, or to “soft-lock” them, making it impossible to leave without staff assistance.

A. Some examples include anything with the ability to kill players before they load into the server or world:

I. A portal that leads to death overtime, including wither, water, poison, or any other means of damage over time in Minecraft.

II. Portal trapping; Surrounding a portal in blocks that prevent players from exiting the portal blocks or interacting with the game client menus and chat.

III. Bed trapping a player in a bed while utilizing gameplay mechanics to kill that player immediately after they have respawned.

IV. Using TPA requests to kill players immediately upon teleportation.

7. Multiple accounts connecting from the same network IP address will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

A. If there are multiple active accounts from the same IP address on the server, whether yours or others’, please inform a staff member to avoid potential issues. Verification will be required to determine each account’s purpose; Unreported accounts will be treated as alternate accounts of a single user by the staff.

B. When using multiple connections for alternate accounts, avoid any form of interaction between them, including artificially boosting your primary account. Do not utilize alternate accounts for the following:

I. Artificially increase mob spawns in your area

II. Own multiple economy accounts

III. Have multiple ender chest storages

IV. Automate gameplay mechanics/processes through self-bots, mods, or scripts

V. Avoid server punishments; This will result in an IP blacklist

C. Your primary account is the one you’ve used the longest and are primarily recognized for on the server. If you’re unsure about this rule, it’s best to avoid interactions between your accounts.

D. If one of your accounts is banned, all your other accounts will be restricted from Telzenith until the banned account’s ban is appealed and lifted.

E. When players share a network connection, inquiries may occur, and in cases of suspicious activity, immediate banning may take place. Appeals with explanations are welcomed.

8. Do not violate Mojang’s Terms and Conditions or the Minecraft EULA in any form. To that end, any member found to be violating Mojang’s Terms and Conditions or the Minecraft EULA will be permanently banned from the Minecraft server and removed from the community as a whole.

Spoiler Policy

In order to maintain a positive and enjoyable experience for all members of our community, we ask that you follow the list of guidelines outlined in this spoiler policy when it comes to discussing recently released content.

If you come across any violation of the community spoiler policy, reach out and report it to a staff member so that it may be corrected; Any violation of this spoiler policy may result in restricted posting privileges for the duration of the spoiler policy being in effect that content.

Destiny 2 Spoilers

Two weeks after the release of new content for Destiny 2, such as an expansion or seasonal question, all posts discussing the relevant content must be marked as spoiler content; After two weeks have lapsed since release, the content can be talked about freely within the community without the need for being marked as spoilers.

1. Respect the wishes of your fellow members who do not wish to be spoiled; Be mindful of the spoilers that you post and do not post spoilers that could ruin the experience of others. For example, try to avoid posting spoilers about the end of a campaign or major plot points without properly marking them as such.

A. If you are discussing spoilers in a publicly available space, make use of the double pipe (||) spoiler formatting that is provided by Discord. Simply surround what you would like to spoiler with double pipes and it will be automatically hidden by Discord upon submission. Example: ||This is a spoiler!||

B. For forum threads, a Spoiler tag must be affixed to the opening post (OP) of a thread; The whole thread should be considered to contain spoiler content and as such, posts contained within that thread do not need to be individually marked as spoilers.

C. If you are unsure whether or not something would constitute as a spoiler, err on the side of caution and mark it as such. If the content that you wish to post is datamined, it must be marked as a spoiler as that content is unreleased.

Enforcement

To maintain the integrity of our community guidelines, we’ve integrated automated systems like bot actions on our Discord and Minecraft server. These systems are designed to gently remind members of guideline adherence, without any punitive intent.

Nonetheless, in certain situations requiring staff involvement, we will consider the gravity of the violation and the member’s history when deciding on suitable measures. Our primary aim is to foster a warm and inclusive community, and we anticipate that our automated systems will effectively address most guideline breaches.

Punishment Ladder

Community members who persistently breach our guidelines will face appropriate consequences for their actions and may encounter restrictions on their participation, such as muting for spam or removal from the Destiny 2 clan, among others. These guideline violations are subject to an escalating consequence framework.

The concept behind this ‘framework’ is that with each action we take (such as warnings or bans), individuals become aware of potential future consequences. If you reflect on your behavior and make positive changes during the punishment period, it’s possible for the consequences to be reduced, alleviated, or even lifted from your account(s). However, it’s important to recognize that there is a possibility of an immediate permanent ban or more severe actions by our staff if deemed necessary.

  • Level 0 – No Action Taken
The action taken for guideline violations at this level are typically carried out by automated systems such as Discord’s AutoMod, which will address the violative material and remind you to abide by the community guidelines. As stated previously, these actions are meant to assist, rather than punish.
  • Level 1 – Warning Issued
We believe that everyone can make mistakes, and if you unintentionally breach the guidelines, we’ll kindly remind you to be mindful of your actions and ensure everyone enjoys their time.
  • Level 2 – Ten Minute Suspension
Despite prior warnings about violating our community guidelines, you’ve received a ten-minute timeout suspension. This break provides a chance to reflect on your conduct within the community.
  • Level 3 – One Hour Suspension
Due to multiple violations of our community guidelines, despite prior warnings and a ten-minute timeout, you will now face a one-hour suspension. This is intended to prompt reflection on the consequences of your actions within the community.
  • Level 4 – One Day Suspension
Persistent disregard for our community guidelines, despite previous warnings and suspensions, has resulted in a one-day suspension. Use this time for self-reflection on your actions and their impact on the community.
  • Level 5 – One Week Suspension
Due to your repeated violations of our community guidelines, we are concerned about your compatibility with our community. In order to safeguard our community’s reputation and the well-being of its members, you have been issued a one-week suspension. Utilize this period for self-reflection on your actions and explore ways to prevent future incidents.
  • Level 6 – Specified Areas Ban
Persistent violations of our community guidelines, despite prior warnings and consequences, have led to a restriction. You have lost the privilege to access that specific section of the community where these violations occurred (e.g., Destiny 2 clan, Minecraft server) to prevent future incidents.
  • Level 7 – Removal from Xeriscape
Your continued disregard for our community’s guidelines, despite prior warnings and penalties, has prompted concerns about your compatibility with our values.

Our staff team will collectively evaluate your history of violations to determine your alignment with our community. If it is concluded that you do not meet our criteria, you will be permanently barred from our community, along with all services and games associated with Xeriscape, such as the Destiny 2 clan and Minecraft server.

This decision is a last-resort measure, determined after a thorough discussion by our entire staff team. In the event of your removal, associated accounts will also be terminated to prevent evasion, and any future attempts to rejoin will not be permitted.

Items to Consider

  • The severity of punishments corresponds to the nature and frequency of guideline violations. For example, minor infractions like spamming may result in a warning, while more serious breaches, such as sharing private information or violating platform terms of service, may lead to removal from the community
  • Our staff members have the authority to interpret and enforce community guidelines with discretion, always in the best interest of the community. Persistent offenders may face escalating penalties, with the potential for removal from the community as the final resort.
  • If you are unsure about any community rule or need clarification, we encourage you to reach out to a staff member. Clear communication is key to ensuring everyone understands and follows the guidelines. We’re here to help answer your questions and provide guidance.

The Xeriscape Network’s staff team consists of dedicated volunteers from our community. If you encounter any concerns regarding a staff member’s actions, we kindly request that you bring them to the attention of an Administrator. Please refrain from approaching staff members directly, as it may result in disciplinary measures. Remember, we can only address issues if we’re informed about them; If you observe something amiss, please report it so that it may be taken care of.
